At the Tulane Energy Institute, we provide educational opportunities that foster student interest, passion and expertise in the ever-changing energy industry. We also contribute to fostering the energy transition by training students who are prepared to lead this vital process and by participating in thought leadership.

Housed in the A. B. Freeman School of Business , our world-renowned energy institute:

  • Trains undergraduate and graduate students on the integration of energy markets, policies, technology and the environment. 
  • Pursues cutting-edge research that drives vital change in the sector. 
  • Provides additional opportunities to promote clean energy solutions forward through a yearly symposium.

Through our work at the Tulane Energy Institute, we develop a highly skilled pool of talent who can work successfully in the energy industry and related banking, consulting, financial, technology and trading firms.

Pursue Industry-Changing Educational Programming

With the support of resources within the Tulane Energy Institute, we help aspiring professionals build a career in energy—whether it’s here in Louisiana or around the globe. Our energy programs are known for propelling graduates into top positions in one of the world’s most dynamic fields. 
Located in New Orleans, with a history in traditional energy and poised to lead in the energy transition, we offer a number of ways for you to grow professionally, including by offering the following energy programs:

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Management, Specialization in Energy —Gain a firm foundation in the energy industry by taking three undergraduate courses that cover topics such as energy financial modeling, energy investment banking, energy markets, energy trading, energy trends and more. (For students entering Fall 2023 and earlier.)
  • Bachelor of Science in Management, Certificate in Energy —Take four courses and gain added expertise related to the energy industry. You’ll take coursework in Energy Markets; Economics and Policy; Energy Financial Modeling or Energy Fundamentals and Trading; and two additional electives.  You’ll be prepared to pursue a career in energy with banks, consulting firms, trading organizations and other related businesses. ( Available Fall 2024.)
  • Master of Management in Energy —Our STEM-designated Master of Management in Energy provides students with a complete understanding of both traditional and renewable energy sources in as little as 10 months. Focusing on the business of energy, you’ll learn advanced skills demanded by employers for energy finance, risk management and trading careers. Graduates of our Master of Management in Energy program will be qualified for a career in energy with energy companies, banks, financial services and consulting firms, utilities and trading organizations.
  • International Master of Management in Energy —Designed for students from the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS) in China, this unique program prepares students for a global career in energy finance or trading.
  • Dual Degree Options  —Gain both expertise in energy and another specialized topic. At Tulane, you can combine our energy programs with a master’s degree in accounting, business, finance or management.

Learn From Practitioners and Industry Experts

Our energy courses are taught by practitioners who are experts in the energy industry—and, as a student, you’ll be able to tap into their expansive professional networks throughout your learning and as you take on a career in energy.

At Tulane, you’ll learn from individuals such as:

  • Pierre Conner, who has 20 years of experience in research and trading at a major bank.
  • John Foreman, who is currently COOO for a boutique private equity firm focused on oilfield and industrial service companies. 
  • Pierre Moses, who is president of a development and project finance shop and has 15 years of expertise in the clean energy finance and project development field. 
  • Joshua Herlands, who has a decade of time spent investing in renewable energy and sustainably infrastructure. 
  • Marshall Carver, who has worked for more than 20 years in equity and debt research—focusing on energy companies, major banks and investing firms. 
  • Eric Smith, who worked in the petrochemicals and garment industry and is frequently sought after by the New York Times, various podcasts and more for his industry expertise.

Our undergraduate and graduate students also pursue unique research efforts that are supported and guided by Tulane Energy Institute leaders.

Clean Energy Investment Symposium

In partnership with wealth management firm Janney Montgomery Scott, we host a yearly Clean Energy investment Symposium.

This three-day conference takes a look at emerging technologies and the energy industry’s leading firms—all the while discussing clean energy topics such as carbon capture utilization and storage, renewable fuels, solar and more.
