Prepare to pass the CPA exam and start a rewarding career as an accounting professional when you earn your Master of Accounting degree from the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University. With rigorous courses and expert guidance, you will gain the expertise to become a certified public accountant or financial analyst for employers around the world, including the Big Four accounting firms.

Whether you were an accounting major or studied another related discipline, we welcome students with varied quantitative backgrounds who want to immerse themselves in the world of accounting. Through one-on-one advising, you can tailor your accounting degree to meet your career goals. You can also pursue a specialization within the Master of Accounting program, which will help you stand out from other candidates as you enter the job market.


Four Specializations

As you earn your accounting master’s degree, you can pursue one of our four specializations — including analytics, taxation, structured finance and risk management.


Program Length

You can complete your degree on an accelerated schedule in only 9 months, or spread your coursework out over 17 months to allow for a summer internship.

Real-World Experience

As you earn your accounting degree, you will put your knowledge to use, such as doing the research accountants do in practice by applying the Accounting Standards Codification to case facts or stepping into the shoes of a KPMG employee through the KPMG Career Catalyst Program.

STEM Designated

International students in the Master of Accounting program may qualify for a 24-month extension of Optional Practical Training (OPT) given employment in an area directly related to their field of study in a STEM-approved industry.

Accounting Curriculum

Our accounting master's degree was built for the business world of today and tomorrow. Our curriculum is industry-endorsed and designed to prepare you for the CPA exam, ensuring you have a solid foundation to begin your career as a certified public accountant or financial analyst. 

All students will complete seven core courses, for a total of 18 credit hours. The remaining 12 credit hours of the 30-credit hour program are electives.

We are one of the few Master of Accounting programs to offer a specialization in risk management. If you have a strong background in accounting, our comprehensive courses on risk will give you a skill that’s highly sought-after by employers in a variety of industries.

Admissions

Our accounting master’s degree is appropriate for students from a variety of backgrounds and undergraduate degrees — including accounting majors, science majors, engineering majors, economics majors and more — provided you have taken introductory accounting courses.

The admissions team at Freeman will work with you to provide individual feedback and determine which course of study is the best fit for you and your goals. We’ll also counsel you on how to put forth your strongest application for the Master of Accounting program.
