Another noteworthy perk of Tulane's Business Minor Summer Institute is that on-campus housing is included in the $16,000 tuition. Students will reside in on campus housing.
While housing is optional, participants are strongly encouraged to reside on campus, as this component has proven to expand the learning environment outside of the classroom and accelerate group discussions and networking. Further, the "dorm life" exposes students to different ideas, cultures, personalities and experiences, allowing students to become better-rounded, open-minded individuals.
Q: My current on-campus housing assignment is not Greenbaum, which has been specified as the 2016 Business Minor Summer Institute dorm. Will I be able to move into Greenbaum by the start of the summer minor program and/or will I be allowed to remain in my current dorm until May 9?
A: All BMSI participants needing on-campus housing accommodations should contact Alicia Edwards at email@example.com or 504-314-2478. Students DO NOT need to complete summer housing applications or "extended stay" forms, as Freeman and housing staff members work directly with each other to accommodate the business school's unique requirements.
Q: My lease does not start until June 1, and I want the summer minor housing discount, but I won't have anywhere to live for the first three weeks of the program. What should I do?
A: Students who choose to live off campus where the lease is not effective until June 1 will have the option to live on campus for a daily discounted rate of $26.00. Daily housing rates do not begin until students are allowed to move into the assigned summer residence hall. This year, move-in day is Friday, May 13, 2017.
For example, students needing two weeks of housing (May 15 - June 1) will remain in their spring '17 housing assignment for the first week of the summer minor program. On May 13, students will check out of their rooms via an RA or housing staff member and move their belongings to Greenbaum Hall.
NOTE: While tuition statements will indicate a rate of $38 per day for 15 days ($570), a $171 refund will be added to the $1,000 program discount and bundled as a BMSI "tuition waiver." In the case of a student needing on-campus housing until June 1, Accounts Receivable would bill the student a total of $15,399 ($15,000 tuition, plus 15 days of housing at $26.00/day).
Q: I want to take advantage of the BMSI on-campus housing; however, I currently live off campus. Where will I live between May 9 and May 15?
A: As long as you indicate this in an email to the program director, you will be housed on-campus prior to the start of classes. A Freeman staff member will work directly with housing to accommodate your needs for the first week of the BMSI program.
Q: I currently live in Greenbaum, but I don't know if my room is on the same hall being assigned to the BMSI. May I stay in my room through the program?
A: Yes. As long as this information is relayed to the BMSI program director, housing should be able to accommodate your needs.
Q: I do not plan on going home after the program is over. How do I manage my housing arrangements after the program is over?
A: Students remaining on-campus following the summer minor program WILL need to complete a 2017 Summer Housing Application. The Business Minor Summer Institute will cover housing costs through July 23. Students are responsible for any costs acquired after this date, including the full $40-a-day, non-discounted housing rate (if on-campus living arrangements are needed). NOTE: If you do not have a place to stay after the summer minor program is over, you should contact the Office of Housing & Residential Life immediately.
Q: I know someone else doing the program and we want to share a room/bathroom. Can we request being paired together?
A: Yes. Please let the business minor program director know so housing can accommodate you. NOTE: All summer minors will be assigned to single-occupancy dorm rooms unless a double-occupancy room is requested by BOTH students.
The HRL and BMSI staff members are in contact throughout April and May, so as long as requests and/or special needs are relayed to the business minor director, students should not have any issues. Another perk to the business minor program is free membership to the Reily Student Center, one of the region's best recreation facilities. With 150,000 square feet of activity space, a variety of recreational programs, an outdoor social pool and sun deck, the center is the ideal place for students looking to release or relax.
Business Minor coordinators also provide participants with a calendar of events tailored to business minors. From networking events and alumni speakers to theater productions, fishing excursions and round-trip transportation to some of the city's most exciting festivals, there's never a dull moment.
While meal plans are not included in the cost of tuition, the program does cater three complimentary meals each week throughout the program. Most Tulane dining facilities remain open throughout the summer, as well, and accept cash and credit cards. Unfortunately, Wavebucks and NOLAbucks expire at the end of the spring semester and do not roll over for use.
