Biography

Sanjana Surange joins the Freeman School as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Marketing after recently earning her PhD in Marketing from Texas A&M University’s Mays Business School. Her research focuses on using large-scale structured and unstructured data to understand customer response and improve marketing decisions. A central stream of her research focuses on consumer mobility. She examines how movement patterns reveal differences in consumers’ lifestyles and preferences, helping retailers better tailor promotions and other interventions. Her other research examines customer engagement and retention in B2B relationships, and the role of artificial intelligence in retailing. She applies a range of methods, including econometric modeling, causal inference, machine learning, and deep learning. Her research has won several awards, including the Gerard and Cheryl Tellis Excellence in Research Award for Best Paper and the Lisa Scheer Award for Best Research. Prior to pursuing her PhD, Surange held product management and marketing analytics and strategy roles in the technology and telecommunications industries. She holds an MBA from Symbiosis International University and a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Rajiv Gandhi Technical University.
