Freeman School of Business History Facts

Originally the College of Commerce and Business Administration, the A. B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University was established in 1914 and is a founding member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, which provides internationally recognized AACSB accreditation for collegiate schools of business.

Today, the Freeman School of business is a leading, internationally recognized business school with more than 3,000 students in programs spanning the globe. With innovative undergraduate and master’s degree programs, the Business School’s curricula combine outstanding classroom instruction with empowering experiential learning opportunities. The Freeman School of Business is dedicated to preparing current and future business leaders to contribute positively to their organizations and their communities.

In its Essential Science Indicators index, Thomson Scientific ranks the Freeman School of Business in the top 1 percent of institutions — based on citations in business and economics between January 2000 and April 2010, with 197 faculty papers collectively cited 1,864 times.

Among institutions and business schools that produced at least 100 indexed papers in the field during that period, The Freeman Business School’s impact score of 9.46 cites per paper places it at No. 70 of the 181 institutions in the top 1 percent.

Dean Paulo Goes

Dean Goes’ work regularly appears in leading academic journals. He often presents and delivers keynote addresses at national conferences in the field of information systems. Before joining the Freeman School of Business, Goes served for five years as the Dean and Halle Chair in Leadership at the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management. Another feature that helps us meet the high standards set by the AACSB accreditation is the state-of-the-art classrooms and facilities at Tulane University. As we continue to invest in research, we are updating our classrooms and facilities to accommodate new software, technologies and research methodologies. We are committed to renovating and keeping our faculties up-to-date. In fact, our building has a LEED Gold rating for being energy efficient.

    • Major expansion and unification of Goldring/Woldenberg Halls I (1986) and II (2003)
    • Approximately 45,000 square feet of additional space for classrooms, conference rooms, offices, and other community spaces
