The new Freeman General Business Minor gives students across Tulane’s undergraduate colleges the opportunity to gain a strong foundation in business while pursuing their primary area of study. The Business Minor offers two paths to enhance your education at Tulane:
-
Path 1: General Business Minor
Complement your current major with fundamental business knowledge, gaining valuable skills in areas such as accounting, analytics, marketing, management, finance, and communication that employers seek across all industries.
-
Path 2: Tailored Business Minor for 4+1 Program
Use the minor as a steppingstone to our 4+1 graduate program, where you can build upon your business foundation and earn an advanced degree in your chosen business concentration:
- Finance (MFIN)
- Business Analytics (MANA)
- Energy (MME)
The minor is designed to be completed within your regular fall and spring course schedule—no summer coursework required!
Who Can Declare the Minor?
You’re eligible and encouraged to pursue this minor if you are not a Bachelor of Science in Management (BSM) major. The curriculum is designed specifically to align with your degree requirements in other schools across Tulane and provide entry into Freeman’s 4+1 Graduate programs.

Students can begin as early as the first semester of their freshman year or as late as their sophomore year and still complete the minor in time to apply to a 4+1 graduate program. Here, we show examples of a student who starts the program in the Spring of their freshman year and finishes the minor in time to apply for our Graduate 4+1 program(s) in their junior year. This allows for some graduate work to take place in the Senior year.
4+1 Pathway: How the Minor Connects
This minor is the official gateway for non-BSM students who want to take advantage of Freeman’s 4+1 graduate offerings. Here's how the path works:
Step-by-Step
- Declare your major with NTC.
- Declare the Freeman Business Minor.
- Take the required core + relevant electives based on your intended 4+1 program.
- Apply to the 4+1 program during senior year (applications open in August).
- Begin taking grad-level Freeman courses while still an undergrad.
- Graduate with your bachelor’s degree, then complete your master’s in one additional year.
Note: Freeman faculty and admissions staff will help guide students through the transition.
Support & Advising Structure
This program is intentionally designed with a collaborative advising model:
- NTC Advisors will help students determine how the minor fits into their degree plan.
- Freeman Undergraduate Advising will answer questions about the minor and help plan course sequencing.
- Graduate Admissions will guide applicants through the 4+1 process.
A cross-school partnership ensures students have a smooth, well-supported experience from declaration to graduate study.
